Moffat CAN to host award winning 'allotment' play at allotment site!

Saturday 26th May at 2.30pm, 4pm & 7pm

The play, by local playwright, Julia Horne, is described as 'a moving tale of sibling rivalry played out in the earth of an allotment'.  We are therefore delighted to be hosting the 2012 tour launch on the Moffat CAN allotments!

New funding for CAN:

Moffat Youth CAN!

It has just been announced that Moffat CAN has received funding (£89k) from the new Scottish Junior Climate Challenge Fund.  It means we can work closely with Moffat Academy and Moffat Uniformed Groups on projects that will reduce their carbon footprints.  We're thrilled with the news and really looking forward to working with our young people in the coming months.  More news to come as we launch the projects next month.  In the meantime we have some job vacancies.  Click here to learn more.

CAN Community CAR CLUB!

Moffat CAN is hoping to create a Community Car Club for Upper Annandale - covering Moffat, Lockerbie and Lochmaben.  The scheme would mean that people could use a car on a Pay as you Go scheme, so you could have access to a car without paying the full running costs of owning your own car (about £3500 per year).  The project would be in partnership with Car Plus, who are funded by the Scottish Government, but before we can go ahead we need to assess if there is enough support in the area.  Leaflets have just gone to print and we will be organising meetings in each of the three towns in the next few weeks.  In the meantime we would really appreciate it you could fill out this online survey - this will help us to assess how much interest there is - there is only a few questions and should only take a few minutes to complete.  Sign up to be a member of Moffat CAN to receive email updates or check back here for news.

Environment Champion of The Year 2011

Moffat CAN has been awarded 'Environment Champion of the Year' by D&G Life Magazine in their annual People of the Year Awards!  We're absolutely thrilled to have won - thank you so much to all those who nominated us and to all our supporters.  What a wonderful end to a wonderfully exciting year!

New Project - Food Waste Collections

The average Scottish home wastes £430 of food every year!

Moffat CAN has just started a food waste collection service in Moffat.  Food Waste forms a large part of the rubbish we throw away.  Here at Moffat CAN we put it to good use.  We have a 'Rocket In-Vessel Composter' which takes all the food and helps us make it into beautiful rich compost in just a few weeks.  The composter can even take cooked food, meat and small bones.

We supply you with a kitchen caddy and your first supply of corn starch liners.  You can then put your caddy out twice a week and will take the food waste away and recycle it for you.  By doing twice weekly collection your food waste is not sitting around for too long.  Collections are carried out by our newest employee Malcolm, on his customised trike.
